Weekend of Science

A major event involving hundreds of organisations in the Netherlands. The aim is to make science attractive to children. Yearly, more than 100.000 children took part in the more than 1,800 activities.

The Weekend of Science, organised by Science Museum NEMO and commissioned by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, is a major national event involving hundreds of organisations in the Netherlands. The aim is to make science attractive to children. Last year, 140,000 people took part in the more than 1,800 activities.
The platform consists of a WordPress website with a dedicated portal for participating organisations. In this portal, participants register and maintain their activities themselves, under the supervision of administrators from the Weekend of Science team.
The project was taken over in late 2023 from another internet agency. The website was rebuilt and expanded by Poet Farmer.
This website with its specific features has pushed Poet Farmer to its limits in terms of possibilities within WordPress. The public website including the participant portal, the large database, the necessary website performance during the event days and all the security measures to prevent cyber attacks make us proud to show this website as a reference project.
